JOB TYPE: Casual / On-Call (Position End Date: August 31 , 2023)
HOURS OF WORK: 12 hour shifts
SALARY: Based on education and experience
JOB SUMMARY: Community Assisted Response (CARE) is a pilot project in partnership with the Medicine Hat Police Service to respond to low-risk mental health calls. The CARE team will assist program participants though system navigation, referrals, follow-up support, and transportation.
SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Respond to emergency mental health crisis call, as part of a two-person response team, for the purpose of de-escalation and providing referrals to community services.
• Assess program recipient needs and determine appropriate interventions
• Collaborate care with community members and other service providers
• Work jointly with the Medicine Hat Police Services in coordination & delivery of the program.
• Document and collect data to measure program effectiveness, and in accordance with privacy laws.
• Adhere to the values and policies of CMHA
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Undergraduate degree in a human services discipline with 3-5 years of directly related experience in mental health and addictions. Combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Experience working with diverse clientele, and previous training or experience is crisis response, including suicide intervention.
• Knowledge of and experience working with vulnerable populations from a strength based approach, in a respectful, non-judgmental, client centred and solution focused manner.
• Must have a valid Alberta driver’s license (Company vehicle will be provided), First Aid certificate, ASIST certificate.
• Must complete a full Police Security Check (Includes: Personal Disclosure Form and Background Information Form).

Peer Support Worker (Recovery College)
JOB TYPE: Relief/Casual
JOB SUMMARY: The Peer Support Worker is responsible for excellence in peer support competencies providing individual and group peer support resulting in the delivery of hope based, positive, compassionate service and strengths-based problem-solving skills.
SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide individual and group peer support for people impacted by mental health and/or substance use concerns using a recovery-oriented framework and harm reduction philosophy
Co-facilitate CMHA Southeast Alberta Recovery College courses alongside Recovery Trainers
Promote the peer support philosophy and empower people through their recovery journey
Provide intra-agency presentations on peer support, community resources, CMHA services and the value of peer support
Participate in coalition building and networking with community groups and individuals to address common needs and issues and to further the peer support movement
Adhere to the values and policies of CMHA Southeast Alberta
Promote the principles of diversity and equity in all work-related duties, wherever applicable
Regular data entry to ensure program efficacy and accurate tracking
Adherence to Peer Support Canada’s Code of Conduct and Standards of Practice
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Lived experience of a mental health or substance use concern
Two years related experience (volunteering, personal or paid), preferably in peer support working with individuals with a mental and/or substance use concern considered an asset
Superior engagement skills
Base level of computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office
